A very important part about doiing projects is sharing them and being able to display them. Google blogger is a good way to write about what you have done but even with screenshots like mine you cannot get a good feel for the prohject without experiencing it. The place where I made my projects, Scratch has a very good way of sharing projects and that is with open galleies. If you go on to scratch you can see tons of projects. The ones I have written about are in "Math projects" gallery. You can also download and join Scratch and make projects of your own.

Slope-Intercept Form Graphing Calculator

This was actually the first of my graphing projeccts. It graphs a line from slop-intercept form which is very commonly used in algebra. The slope is m but because the the is used as a fraction I made a variable for the denomenator as well. That variable can be set to any number including 1 which it often seems to be in algebra.

This is my latest math project which graphs a line using standard form. Like my other projects I programmed it on scratch.

This week I accomplished my second graphing project that used point-slope form to graph. This form enaables you to graph the line by using a point the line goes through and the slope of the line. I have also started my third graphing project that graphs from standard form.

For next time I will again need to gather information about my project. Also there is no longer an xy grid backround on scratch so I will need to find my own.

I programmed this project in scratch. it has the ability to graph a line based on one set of coordinates and a slope. Another thing I may do is have it figure out the slope itself from plugging in two sets of coordinates and using the slope equation:(Y2-Y1)/(X2-X1).

What are your in class goals/plans for the week?

There are three classes this week and my plan is that I will first gather my knowledge on graphing point-slope form. Then, I will work on my project and figure out the code. By the end of the week I will finish the project. At some point in the week I will browse other people's projects to get an idea for one of my own. I would figure out and write my own code for it though.

What have you done on your project?

So far on this project I have been able to be able to make a program that can graph a line from slope-intercept form.

What do you need to do on your project?

I am going to graph lines and hopefully parabalas with different forms.

There is nothing I need for my project if I continue in scratch. If I choose to start in a different language then I will need to learn that language. Right now, I do not need any specific tools or knowledge.

-How can we show your work when it is done?

1. My overall goal is to be able to teach math and science concepts using scratch.

2. I would make games or other programs to help display and teach the concepts. I have already done one that graphs the slope of a line using slope-intercept form. I am currently working on one that shows patterns of development. I am also going to make others that that will be able to convey the concept I want to get across.

3.The deadlines are that I want to make a new one each couple of weeks. By thanksgiving I will be finished with the one I am currently wotking on. By Christmas I will be working on more advanced topics.

4. The skills and techniques I already have are being able to confidently program in scratch and I have learned tachniques such as graphing a line which I may use again when I do more advanced math programs.

5. I hope to eventually start working with concepts that I am using this year and thereforewill need to learn the skills required to use those concepts. It will be harder to program those and I will need to lengthen my deadlines accordingly.

6. I would be able to post it on the scratch site and keep up with this blog.

7. One way that I would know if I reached my goal would be whether I finish within my deadlines. If other people like the projects I will know that I have done well.

8. I think that it would be great to share the projects at the Middle or Alden school.
